Trends

Approaching Christmas I am curious about the outlook towards Christmas as a time for gifting, in these times of isolation.

One of the positive aspects of the C-19 pandemic is the rediscovery of the hand made – artisanal items, which endeavour to be socially aware and sustainable. Gifting will, I believe, be very personal this year; meaningful and thoughtful gifts will be in vogue. Personalised, monogrammed tags are definitely ‘on trend’, this year.

Li Edelkoort (an international predictor of trends) is hopeful of a global future whereas humans, honour the victims of C-19, by embracing the possibility and opportunity of a new society – continuing the momentum of positive change which have become evident during this time of reset.

The trends in gift presentation are crisp black & white, sophisticated midnight blue or an earthy approach using natural materials such as jute. Traditional red is always trustworthy as a theme, and this year is no different – either as a candy cane or used with gold and antique ornaments.

The garden is my inspiration this year. A burst of jewel tones – amethyst, amber, garnet and topaz set against emerald and citrine greens. A canvas of matt gold is the perfect context for the opulence of heavy satin ribbon and taffeta.
